Andalucía Spain
Many years ago, Debra and I lived in southern Spain where we were stationed during a time when we were both in the Navy. We lived near the small town of Rota, in the Andalucían province. It was a beautiful place with warm and wonderful people.
Christian Friend
At that time, we knew a traditional Christian man who was always grounded in his approach to both worldly and spiritual matters.
He wasn’t the type of person to lose his cool or go off on some tangent when life’s challenges arrived. In the face of adversity or when he wasn’t entirely clear on what direction to go, he would say, “Do what you know until you know what to do.”
Rain or shine, that is exactly what he did.
Achilles Heel
Have you ever noticed that challenges in life always seem to catch us at our blind spot – our Achilles heel?
Of course, this makes sense. If we could see a difficulty coming, most of us would take care of the situation before it became a problem.
The World
Speaking of situations, as we watch the behaviors of those in society and the greater world right now, our old friend’s approach seems to be particularly pointed.
Moving On
With that said, most people, everywhere, are ready to move on with things.
They are leaving behind the problems, undesired situations, and basically all that is unpleasant in their lives — fervently and impulsively moving toward something better, even if they don’t know what that is.
Solutions Present Themselves
Our friend’s approach to life’s situations is a reminder that if we wait patiently and don’t act impulsively upon our current frustrations, in time, a solution will present itself. It may not be the solution we had envisioned, but it will be far better than the unwelcomed condition we may be currently facing.
In the absence of sufficient patience, when we are in the midst of some life challenge or turmoil, it is natural to want to take action to find an immediate solution to alleviate the stress.
The Spontaneous Decision
However, if we act hastily and without allowing the Universe and Divine to show us better alternatives that inevitably are out there and waiting for us to discover them, we may find ourselves wishing that we hadn’t made such a “spontaneous” decision.
Impatience & Missed Opportunities
How many times have we made an immediate purchase of a new electronic device, an appliance, a car, even a new house, because we had grown fed up with the old one?
Then later, a better deal, a newer model, or our “dream” home, suddenly became available only to find that we were no longer in a position to take advantage of it.
Higher Guidance Solutions
Similarly, perhaps we have had a falling out with a friend or relative over some disagreement. If we wait, remain open and allow our Higher Guidance to show us insights about our part of the disagreement, a heartfelt solution can be found.
The healing path to repair the wounded relationship then becomes obvious, and usually in a much more uplifting way than if we try to force a reconciliation.
No matter what the challenge, whether it’s a daunting illness, an unexpected financial strain, or anything in between, whenever it is possible to wait for the unfoldment of time, better solutions will always make themselves known.
Immediate Actions vs. Waiting
Now, some situations may require immediate action, such as an allergic reaction to a bee sting, or other time-critical predicament. In those cases, it is important for us to take helpful, corrective steps right then and there.
Life’s Higher Pathways
Still, the less-critical decisions and situations may be best served if we allow sufficient time, after-the-fact, for the Universe and our Higher Guidance to show us the higher pathways just waiting for us around the bend in our life path.
In our lives, Debra and I have been reminded of this time and time again.
It is during those times that we think of our old friend’s maxim, “Do what you know until you know (and are shown) what to do.”
